No matter how powerful or well-connected a dictator is, they are doomed in two ways. Either the people hang him from a lamppost or the dictator is lucky enough to flee the country Sheikh Hasina did the latter.

5th August 2024 will be a historic day in the history of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh after ruling for 15 years via India. After leaving her official residence, the protesters raided her house and looted it. They ate too. Her father was not spared, the founding father of Bangladesh, Protesters vandalized Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statue.

The situation got suddenly bad in Bangladesh? No…..
The truth is that Hasina's countdown has been going on for some time. In our last article, we asked the same question. Will Sheikh Hasina be able to save her position due to the student protest?

For now, the Bangladesh Army has announced the formation of an interim government. trying to create peace. People are excited to see Bangladesh starting a new era. But the challenges are still the same. What kind of interim government will the army form? Will democracy be able to thrive in Bangladesh? Or will the pressure of fundamentalist forces increase?

But first, let's understand why a dictator had to resign and why students of Bangladesh proved that they are not afraid of dictator. The reverse counting started with protest against quota system. Sheikh Hasina re-introduced which was stopped in 2018 quota based on non social justice system... generally when quota is needed it is introduced, Sheikh Hasina re-introduced Freedom Fighter Quota. 30% reservation for government jobs for freedom fighters. The total count is 0.13% of the descendants. This quota was to get her favorite’s into civil service, bureaucracy and government jobs. Students demanded a quota reform. Remove the 30% quota. And then, the dictator Hasina says, what is the need, matter is in the court The court will give the verdict. So, why are you protesting?

The protest is because Sheikh Hasina was a well-known dictator for the student population of Bangladesh, especially those who know how dictators operate. Whether it's the court, police, bureaucracy, everything was under the control of Sheikh Hasina. So, this reintroduction was also happening as per Sheikh Hasina 2018 or 2024, Sheikh Hasina has rigged elections and politics to create an opposition free Bangladesh. There is no press freedom in Bangladesh, so students went to the streets, saying enough is enough……

They were met by Awami league student wing, who are like goons, These gangsters started beating the students and the police started cracking down, the internet was shut down. Officially 200 students were killed but unofficially 1000. The students fought against the quota reform and said that they will not let the martyrs die in vain. Finally, the Supreme Court removed the 30% quota. It should have ended... and we covered the story in our previous article. The reason behind the blackout and the crackdown. And the back down by the Supreme Court. We covered the whole story behind this.

But the problem is that Sheikh Hasina's problems start from there. They don't end there.

Sheikh Hasina said that we withdraw this quota and students will go back home. But when this quota was withdrawn, the patience of the students was broken. Because the way students were treated, it is said 1000 have died, So much violence had been done, that Hasina must resign. Involved police and army must also answer Result, Sheikh Hasina did double crackdown, what a dictator would do they arrested, tortured the student leader and made them give a statement that they are taking back their protest.

Helicopter was used to shoot students. The violence reached extreme level, Pellet guns were used. After that, students said that now we will have to march towards Dhaka. We will not let this happen. They had put a demand of 9 points earlier.

Because of which, there is more crackdown. So, that 9 point demand became 1 point demand, That Sheikh Hasina has to resign. So, somewhere Sheikh Hasina is responsible for this crisis. If she had tried to solve it democratically, then such a situation would not have developed. And she would have remained in power for a few more years. But the students said no more because of the curfew, raid and forced disappearance. We covered this in detail in our article part 2. Now, let's see what happened in the last 24-48 hours. You can say that the final hours of Hasina started on 4th August.

Student protesters said they will rally but Hasina told her party activists to protest against them. It was a bad idea from the beginning because you are setting up a clash. Here, not army, police but Chhatra League will counter people, the goons of Awami League were armed. Hasina, a dictator thought that the students would be killed by the gun. The protest would stop. have already withdrawn the quota. But, somehow, this calculation backfires.

She thought that if there is a protest, they will say Jamaat was involved, BNP was involved. This is done to destabilize Bangladesh so I took the steps necessary, she would have said 100 people are killed on a single day, earlier the official number was 200, unofficial 1000. 100 people are killed on a single Sunday. Mostly protesters, some policemen, Awami League members, and the goons  of Awami League are shooting students at point blank range... recorded on camera and mobile phones. In response to this, the students said that now the matter has gone too far. Now everyone should reach Dhaka. The whole country should reach Dhaka. And we will surround Sheikh Hasina's residence. Police and paramilitary forces tried to save the house. But student conveners said that they were peacefully protesting. They said that the goons of Awami League and Chhatra League killed them. 99% people in Bangladesh are against this regime, We want a democratic state for our future generation. The more they use violence, the more we will protest. There is a saying, don't scare us enough to get rid of our fear. Students have got rid of their fear. If you want to kill us, do it. But we will not back down.

Now comes a twist.
When students are protesting, marching, Army has an important role, Army said that they will not fire at students or call them terrorists. Army said that they will put curfew but will not shoot at the protesters. This is a critical point when people realize that something is going to change in Bangladesh. Army does not take position with Sheikh Hasina. Army chief also said, we will not shoot at the people. So, they are standing with the people. Army is made for the people. And they refused to call them terrorists. Which Sheikh Hasina was repeatedly saying.

Army issued a statement on 3rd August. Bangladesh Army has always stood and will stand by the public. Army has its own internal politics. Complicated. Some generals with Sheikh Hasina, junior officers different loyalties. Big question was, if there were clashes between Awami league and protesters then which side army would be? By stander or with students?

Global opinion was also against Sheikh Hasina. It was talked that she was being dragged to International Criminal Court. European Union had given adverse comments. So, a stage was set. Student Movement vs Hasina. Inquilab vs Tana Shahi.

Now, let's come to the final few hours of Sheikh Hasina.
If you saw the scene of Monday 11 am, internet shutdown was discussed expecting a complete shutdown so the government was planning to crackdown again. There was a possibility of another bloodbath after a total blackout. Student protesters knew about this but they did not back down. The internet was removed. Heavily armed troops were put in Dhaka to control student protests. Shaheed Minar, clashes at language martyr memorial.
Mobile, broadband, internet, everything was suspended. Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, whatever you say, restrictions are on everything.

But the army came through for democracy. The army started showing this sign that they are with the students and Sheikh Hasina had to resign. And obviously, as I said, the army repeatedly showed that they were not firing on the student protesters. At 12 o'clock, Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman said that he will address a nation at 2 o'clock Bangladesh time.
This made it clear that a big game is going on in Bangladesh. Many people are excited.

Is it true that student protest overthrew a dictator?
Is it true that army can declare a state of emergency?

State of emergency can't be declared by army. President has to declare. Is it possible that Sheikh Hasina is resigning? Till 1 pm, the senior official of Sheikh Hasina's office said that the situation is in a flux. Army Chief's office pushed the public address to the nation till 3 pm. But people had understood by then. The euphoria and jubilation was visible on the roads of Bangladesh and Dhaka. At 1.30 pm, it was confirmed that Sheikh Hasina had resigned and she was fleeing to India. People were celebrating on the streets. Army personnel were being given flowers. This was called Bangladesh's second independence. At 2 o clock update, Sheikh Hasina and her sister had left the official residence. She wanted to record a speech but she was not allowed to do that. A resignation and then flee from the country.

So, literally, you can imagine how much pressure and threat she was put under, what was the role of Army in this? This has not been revealed yet. But the resignation is confirmed. Her fleeing is confirmed. Earlier it was said that they are going to India, but now it seems going to London via India where they will seek refuge.

Students enter Ganabhaban, see the grandeur of the place, have lunch there

and then the official residence of the Prime Minister is robbed. 3 o clock- Army chief came to national television to talk about a better future. says that fighting and killing is not going to help. says that the destruction and protest must be stopped. that the guilty will be punished. Army chiefs had spoken to leaders . They have had a positive conversation. An interim government is being formed. After this interim government, Bangladesh should stop the bloodshed. Jubilation is in the air. News is coming from every city that Bangladesh won, democracy won and a dictator lost.
Remember, Sheikh Hasina had put democracy on the line. Last election, she brought a one-party system to power in Bangladesh. When her Awami League was the main party that fought the election, But where there is celebration on one side, there is also a matter of deep worry on the other side.

Now, unrulyness is being seen in Bangladesh. Ganabhaban was looted, Awami league ministers are burning all documents so people do not know, People have anger, law and order is not there, so they are becoming violent mob. Sheikh Hasina resigned but still they are attacking. They are attacking the houses, minority groups, statues, public institutions, vandalism.

Student protesters are saying that Chhatra league people are doing all this They will ensure that there is no attack against minorities. Sheikh Haseena's son is trying to use religion and polarizing people. all said and done, this vandalism needs to stop. So that the interim government can regroup and focus.

First task of the in terim government is to give back the students who were arrested, who were made to disappear, who were secretly detained.
Second news is that the Awami League politicians homes are being attacked, Any retribution against the community or politicians needs to stop now if the interim government wants credibility.

In this period of instability ... my request to student groups is to ensure that no one can attack the reputation of Bangladesh, the minorities of Bangladesh, no one can spoil the situation, no one can tarnish the image of Bangladesh.
The question is who will rule in Bangladesh in the future. Will Bangladesh get a military rule again?
Will it get quasi-military rule? Will it get an unelected authoritarian? Or will there be a managed election again? Or something truly democratic?
And that change starts today. Remember, there are fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh.
Will they bounce on this opportunity? Or will the student protesters, the progressive, will they be able to take the center stage?

We want these students to come forward as an alternative political force. Not the Awami League, not the BNP, not any fundamentalist party, but the students themselves to come forward as a big force. I would want students should be part of interim government. Student groups responsible for ousting Sheikh Hasina, they have to become part of the change.

Students have to be in representative government. If army includes students then this will be a big step for Bangladesh. Remember, only students can take Bangladesh forward in this difficult time 40% of Bangladeshi citizens aged 15-25 are neither employed nor in education. This is a big challenge for Bangladesh and its youth Important that Bangladesh does not fall into fundamentalism or dictatorship, But a strong democratic force, student groups have greater responsibility, now I request, fight is not over, revolution is not here yet, Bangladesh is not free. a lot of fight is still left to make it free and democratic.
